One of the very first concepts I learned about Israeli life was 'after the chaggim' as it soon became clear that regular life comes to a grinding halt during this frenetic holiday period. The pressure is on to entertain for a full month and already you can feel the pace picking up as flustered shoppers pile trolleys to the brim and frantically consult lengthy shopping lists.
It's perfectly understandable that it's at times like this that busy cooks welcome shortcuts in the kitchen and it's with this in mind that I say if you can't make it...fake it...and your guests will be none the wiser when you dish up this utterly Delicious! Chocolate Oreo Ice-Cream.
DON'T TELL A SOUL CHEAT'S OREO ICE-CREAM
20 chocolate Oreo biscuits
1 liter good quality vanilla ice-cream
200 grams melted chocolate
1 cup whipped cream
1//2 cup toasted almonds/hazelnuts
1: Crush the biscuits - save a few for decoration - and gently mix into softened ice-cream.
2: Gently mix in half the melted chocolate and cream then mix in remaining chocolate and nuts.
3: Freeze and serve with halved Oreos lined across the the top of the ice-cream loaf to decorate.
COOK'S NOTES: It's best to melt chocolate in the microwave as it burns very easily and burnt chocolate cannot be saved.
